about

Introducing “Helen”, a score for a life. A film of small memories; her soundtrack playing now.

This work charged me to pull the light from the dark and sometimes unpredictable themes that emerged, filling the air, shaking the floor, and continuing to explore the meditative silence between sound that’s been fascinating me for some time.

Production was an exploration and a continued learning experience the past several months. Both physical and sampled instrumentation: Harnessing a sleeping organ and rotary speaker cabinet, felt-struck handbells (thank you, Scott Parry), piano treatments, a sampled Glass Armonica (thanks Soniccouture and also shout out to Benjamin Franklin), dives through the modular rack (cheers Strymon) and tape reel intertwined with Ableton Live.

Last not least, this vision would not have been fully realized without the visceral choral performance by Kiki Parry. Thank you, Kiki, for lending your beautiful voice to the title track, and the vocal samples woven throughout this passage. Ellie would’ve loved it. Maybe she does, somehow.

Enjoy. Peace and ice cream cones for everyone.
